Do you really need to fix it?

Being born with different wiring is paying off!

There’s starting to be more and more awareness towards difference, we do not send people to asulyms anymore just because of different ways of thinking. We try to understand them. And as an ADHD person, i am feeling a lot of relief from this change.

Studies of girls and women with ADHD are still taking their first steps, but already there is more curiosity than judgement towards us and luckily, I have gained some of that same lens for myself as well. I still do have a harsh inner critic that is difficult to live with and because i was diagnosed later in life, that critic has been growing inside me for decades, so switching that into curiosity is not a simple task. But thankfully i see that in the external world and i can tune into that as a crutch for this journey.

The more i learn about my different way of wiring and understand and accept myself, the more i notice something interesting. And i find it quite funny and amusing. What i keep seeing in selfhelp industry and somewhat in psychology and spiritual teachings, is that many of them are teaching people how to be more like me. Which has turned my life upsidedown! I grew up being told that i focus on wrong things as i can not get myself to focus on the so called ”important stuff” and that i am irresponsible because i have too much fun in life or that i am inconsiderate because i can find humor in dark situations or that i talk too much or that i am being too different and i should just start being normal like others. And now i see people teaching others to follow their interests (the ”wrong things”, or as i now know, dopamine), to fill their life with more things that sparks joy (the ”too much fun”), to use laughter as a tool to brake the cycle of anxiety (the ”humor in dark situations”), to communicate more and to use their voice (the ”talk too much”) and to be uniquely authentic (the ”too different”).

I have even heard from some spiritual teachers that neurodivergence is the ”blueprint for the new earth” and that there are schools in the world that only accepts kids on the spectrum and they are raised as being gifted and supported to grow strong on their uniqueness and they end up being people who comes up with life changing new inventions.

So imagine coming from being left out, judged and criticized to being the peak of human evolution. That is what they make movies from! But as always, everything is a perspective. These two are the extremes and they coexist in this reality and there is a lot in between. I don’t know what is the truth, or is there any, but i do know which perspective I like more. And i do know that you don’t have to fix anything you are. Maybe understand, learn and grow if you want, but definitely not fix.

Have a wonderful day!
